LEH "beat" estimates that had been significantly lowered in recent weeks.

LEH's explanation for their terrific results don't pass the smell test.

I think they punted for a quarter in hope that the business environment would improve. If it doesn't, all the ugliness comes out in the fully audited results next quarter.
